Saints Football Team

Unlike many other pro football teams, the New Orleans Saints football team does not have any official tailgating parking spaces in the lots around the Louisiana Superdome. Fans who want to party and catch the pre-game excitement can either go to the official tailgate party inside the stadium, find a privately run party nearby or go to one of the many sports bars near the stadium. Each has its pros and cons and which you choose will depend on what you want from your tailgate experience.

Official Tailgating

One thing that everyone knows about the people of New Orleans is that they know how to have a good time. The owners of the Saints football team have recently invested in the Bud Light Tent and Patio to be the standout feature on Champions Square.

It is open to all fans ahead of each regular season game for three hours before the game begins. The tent can hold up to 400 people as well as an all-you-can-eat buffet and all you-can-drink-soft drinks bar. Alcohol is for sale to those legally able to purchase it and you will find big screens showing all the pre-game build up.

Each ticket will cost an additional $90 on top of your game ticket, and you will need to buy one ahead of time to be sure of getting into the party. Once inside, you have everything provided for you complete with a real party atmosphere with many people in a small space.

While the Saints do not encourage tailgating within their own parking lots, you can find local hotspots where you will normally be able to pitch your tent. New Orleans law says that any transaction where money changes hand is a business activity and business activities that concern a sporting event must have an event license. This means that any tailgate for which you have to pay will be registered and monitored by the city, but will also cost you more as the guys running it will have to cover their own cost.

You can find places where you can tailgate for free, but you often need to contact the organizers ahead of time through the New Orleans Saints fan boards and you’ll often be asked to contribute something to the general food or beer selection. This is a great way to meet new fellow fans, but they do not generally take kindly to visiting supporters, so if you are supporting the visiting team, you should look at one of the fee-paying tailgates.

Sports Bars

The final alternative is to seek out one of the many sports bars near the Superdome. These have become increasingly popular with the lack of parking lot tailgating and you will find many full of hardcore Saints Football Team fans. Allegros bar is a good place to start if you are not a Saints fan as the big screens show all the games and the bar gets supporters of teams from all different conferences. Usually a DJ plays at Allegros after the game and you will often find good deals on different beers throughout the day.

If you prefer to be surrounded by Saints fans then head to Pat O’s in the French Quarter. Live music by New Orleans bands is provided and the security on the door will turn away anyone who is not a fan of the Saints football team. It can get lively after the game, especially if the Saints win, so you may want to find a quieter bar to dissect the match after the final whistle.
