Atlanta Falcons Football Team

Fans of the Atlanta Falcons football team will claim that they have the widest array of spaces to host your tailgating party out of all of the teams in either conference. It is hard to say whether this claim is actually true as the number of tailgaters will vary from week to week. The location of the Georgia Dome away from downtown means that you can choose from a large number of lots, as well as official tailgating packages and local bars to get the true Falcons game day experience.

Onsite Packages

If the idea of bringing all of your tailgating gear and food to the game gives you a headache, the Atlanta Falcons football team aims to provide a great experience for you within shouting distance of the stadium. The doors to the Falcon hospitality suite open two hours before kick off and offers you an all you can eat buffet, as well as a bar selling a wide variety of alcohol. It's conveniently located between the Dome and the Georgia World Congress Center, so you can stay with other fans watching the pre-game entertainment in comfort until it's time to take your seats.

Arthur Blank who recently bought the Atlanta Falcons football team made good tailgating spots one of his priorities. He recognized the importance of the pre-game build up and understood that he would build better fan loyalty if he gave them spaces to party and talk about how much they love their team. Most of the parking lots around the Georgia Dome are open for tailgaters on game day, but here are a few tips on where to find the best spots:

  • Orange Lot – This paved space is the closest parking lot to the Dome, sitting conveniently on the south side between the Dome and the Martin Luther King Parkway. Its proximity attracts the hardcore fans who come as early as six hours before the start of the game. You will be well advised to avoid here and Lot K if you are not a dedicated Atlanta Falcons football team fan.

  • Olympic Drive – If you are looking for somewhere a bit more chilled out, or a chance to meet and talk with more sober fans, try finding a spot on Olympic Drive to the south east of the Dome. Generally for less than $10, you can pull up on the grass verge and set your party up. The atmosphere is relaxed and you will always find someone with whom to discuss the game.

  • Yellow Lot – On the north side of the stadium, Yellow Lot sits close to the Marshaling Yard and understandably fills up quickly. It is a short walk to the stadium, but also sits next to one of the MARTA stops downtown, making it popular for people hosting a car-less tailgate. It is one of the smallest lots available, and you can expect to pay up to $15 to enter when the Falcons are playing one of the bigger teams.

You can tailgate in any Dome parking lot but not in any of the multi-level garages. You can tailgate only directly behind the vehicle and you cannot tailgate in an adjacent parking lot.

Sports Bars

As with any NFL team, the area around the stadium has sprouted a large number of sports bars to cater for the hordes of fans on game day. If you are looking for a true Atlanta Falcons football team experience, try finding a space in Dantanna's. It does not look like much from the outside, but you can always find live music as well as big screens showing all the pre-game build up. Be prepared for a friendly hazing if you're not a big football fan or visiting from another team, but once you get past this, you'll find the best atmosphere outside of the tailgating lots.
