Indianapolis Colts Football Team

The Indianapolis Colts football team tailgaters and their fans call themselves the Blue Crew, which represents one of two primary colors of the team. Everything from ambulances to whole bodies are painted blue for the celebration that takes place every Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The stadium only has 1,499 spaces on the South Lot and it is assigned on a first come first served basis, which means you probably have to park your car in the surrounding area. Lucas Oil Stadium is surrounded by many parking lots totaling 39,649 spaces within six blocks in each direction and tailgating is allowed on all the lots. You have access to the lots beginning at 7 a.m. for the noon games and 8 a.m. for all other games.

The price differs for the other lots not owned by the Indianapolis Colts football team, since different companies manage each lot. Each parking facility is different so you have to consider your activities based on the structure you are going to choose. These are some of the lots and their prices:

  • VIP Parking is $30
  • Pan Am Plaza Garage $26
  • Union Station Garage $26
  • MCA Parking $11
  • BC Parking $10

You have many choices for parking and most of them take reservation before game day.

Tailgating Rules for the Colts

Even though the lots are located in different properties surrounding the stadium, the same rules apply to all of them. If you want to enjoy a great time at an Indianapolis Colts football team tailgating party, follow these rules:

  • Spaces are assigned as you enter the lot and you cannot reserve a space. If you are part of a group get to the lot at the same time.
  • No tailgating in an empty space, the space has to have a vehicle.
  • Tents are not allowed in the aisle ways.
  • Tailgate only in front or back of your vehicle without blocking the aisles.
  • You cannot throw footballs, baseballs or other objects.
  • Charcoal grills are banned

Breaking the rules will result in your eviction from the premises without a refund.

RV parking is off-site only. Two campsites offering parking are within six to seven miles of the stadium. The Indiana State Fairgrounds Campsites offers accessibility for those with special needs, paved pads, pay phones, water ,and sewer hook-ups. 30-amp service, a playground and picnic shelter. The Lake Haven Retreat, another campground has fishing, Internet connections, restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities.

The rules at the tailgating parking lot during Indianapolis Colts football team games do not allow some of the most common games associated with football. Tossing a football or other objects is not allowed at the stadium parking, but you can entertain your self at the tailgate playing cards, bean bag toss and football trivia.

Winter Weather Warnings

Winters in Indianapolis can be severe and you have to plan accordingly. Bringing the right gear to protect you from the elements is one way to support the Indianapolis Colts in the brisk fresh air of November, December and hopefully the playoffs in January. Dress in layers as Lucas Oil stadium is a retractable domed stadium so once you are inside you might be too warm if you cannot peel off some layers.

High Velocity

The High Velocity sports bar located in the JW Marriot Indianapolis Downtown has hosted tailgating parties for the home games of the Indianapolis Colts. Great food, drink specials, games and prizes entertain the upscale and casual fan. This is the place for the fan who does not want to deal with the weather, as a walkway and underground tunnel from the hotel lead directly to Lucas Oil Stadium.

Tailgating means food, drinks and each city and stadium has their own specialties and the great fans of the Indianapolis Colts football team are no different. As with all NFL fans, the supporters of the Indianapolis Colts enjoy coming together in anticipation of a great football game.
