New York Giants Tailgating

Planning an entertaining New York Giants tailgating party involves having some idea of how many people are attending, what the weather conditions will be and how you plan on decorating for your tailgating party. Be aware, however, that all stadiums have rules regarding the establishment of tailgate parties before, during and after a professional football game, as well as guidelines governing behavior and alcohol consumption.

Tips for Throwing a Tailgate Party

  • Don't forget to bring jumper cables--your car radio, head lights and interior lights may be on for a few hours, possibly draining your vehicle battery

  • Essential items to pack for a New York Giants tailgating party include lawn chairs, card tables, tarps for protection from rain, tablecloths and, of course, Giants-themed decorations

  • If you plan on grilling your food, don't forget to pack lighter fluid, charcoal, matches/lighters, utensils needed to grill and a small fire extinguisher

  • Pack plenty of plastic utensils, paper plates, garbage bags and paper towels.

  • Always follow precautions regarding safe transportation of food. Cold food needs to remain cooled at 40 degrees Fahrenheit or lower to prevent issues with contamination. Place salads, fruits and foods containing mayonnaise in dishes placed in ice chests.

  • Include a basic first aid kit in your lists of items

  • Organize your tailgate party by having everything readily available. Purchase a container equipped with drawers that you can place on your tailgate and put utensils, bottle openers, napkins and other essentials in the drawers for easy access by everyone

Decorations for a New York Giants Tailgating Party

Half the fun of a tailgate party is showing your support for your favorite football team--the New York Giants. The team's official website offers a great variety of Giants decorations with which to enhance your party, such as:

  • Car flags that attach to your vehicle antenna
  • Car magnets
  • Window clings
  • Decals
  • Trailer hitch covers
  • Fan foam fingers
  • License plate frames
  • Umbrellas
  • Temporary tattoos and stickers
  • Banners
  • Keychains and dog tag necklaces (as party favors)

If you bring your dog to your New York Giants tailgating party, dress him or her in Giants-themed shirts, bandanas or mesh jerseys just for dogs. You can purchase pet I.D. tags at the Giants official website as well.

Rooting for the Giants and indulging in delicious food is just two of the joys of tailgating parties. Here are a few delicious dishes you can serve to your hungry crowd:

Tailgate Pastrami & Bagel Dip

  • One 16 ounce jar of mayonnaise
  • One 16 ounce container of sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon of salt seasoning, such as Accent
  • 1 tablespoon of dillweed
  • 1 small diced onion
  • 2 packages of chopped pastrami or corned beef
  • Dash of garlic seasoning
  • Bite-sized bagel pieces

Mix all ingredients together except for the bagel pieces. Refrigerate for at least one to one and 1/2 hours before serving with bagels. Add sauerkraut if desired.

Choco Football Pies

  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix
  • 3 medium eggs
  • 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 2 sticks of softened butter
  • 3 to 4 cups of powdered sugar

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine oil, water, eggs and cake mix in large bowl. Whip the ingredients for about three minutes. Using an ice cream scoop, place mounds of batter on parchment paper, about one and 2/3 inches in diameter, using a spoon to shape into footballs. Bake for about ten minutes.

To make the icing, whip together sugar and butter, adding more sugar for proper consistency. When fluffy, place icing in a pastry bag (plastic baggie works also) and cut an opening that is about 1/2 inches in length. Decorate the Whoopie Pies like footballs (stitching on both ends).

New York Giants tailgating parties can be a lot of fun when planned and organized rather than impromptu. In addition, make sure you bring plenty of trash bags to clean up after the party. Don't leave any trash laying around and always throw your full trash bags in the proper containers provided by Giants stadium.
